The Project

PBC were asked to advise on party wall and neighbourly issues and were appointed by Barratt Homes Ltd as their surveyor to deal with matters arising under the Party Wall Act.

The development comprises the erection of residential flats in three towers above a podium building which immediately adjoins their earlier redevelopment of a substantial EDF substation with flats over.

Apart from the complications arising from the location of extensive underground ducts for which EDF require permanent access, the development immediately adjoins an elevated section of the Docklands Light Railway.  This added issues of public safety to the normal concerns of structural integrity, damage and nuisance.

PBC Scope

PBC’s task in this case included extracting timely information from groundworks and piling contractors and identifying personnel within EDF and both operational and safety agencies serving the DLR.  Agreements were achieved within the timetable demanded by the client’s building programme.
