About the project
PBC was instructed to undertake a Planned Maintenance Report and provide Contract Administration services for the external repairs and redecoration of Walmar House, a Grade II listed building located on Regent Street in London’s West End.
Given the building’s heritage significance, the project required a sensitive and considered approach to ensure that repair proposals protected the architectural character and historic fabric of the property. Detailed inspections were undertaken to assess the condition of the external envelope, including stonework façades, decorative architectural features, windows, rainwater goods and other elements contributing to the building’s historic significance.
The Planned Maintenance Report identified areas of deterioration, defects and maintenance priorities, establishing a strategic programme of repairs designed to preserve the building’s heritage value while addressing long-term performance requirements. Particular emphasis was placed on retaining original materials wherever possible and specifying appropriate repair methodologies compatible with the existing historic fabric.
Following completion of the report, PBC prepared detailed specifications and tender documentation for the external repair and redecoration works. The proposed works were carefully considered to ensure that the appearance, character and significance of this listed building were maintained while extending the lifespan of key external elements.
PBC subsequently administered the contract throughout the construction phase, overseeing quality control, monitoring workmanship, certifying payments and coordinating stakeholders to ensure the works were delivered in accordance with the project requirements and conservation objectives.
The completed scheme enhanced the appearance and durability of Walmar House, safeguarding an important heritage asset on Regent Street while supporting its continued occupation and long-term preservation.
