Fire Reinstatement, Pan Peninsula, London

The Project

Pan Peninsula is an iconic 762 luxury apartment development in the heart of Canary Wharf. Its two towers rise to 40 and 50 storeys, with facilities including a cinema, a health and fitness complex and a penthouse level cocktail bar.

PBC Scope

PBC was appointed to provide Project Management, Contract Administration and Cost Management services following a fire on a balcony on the 37th Floor of the West Tower, caused by a barbeque. The fire caused damage to the balcony cladding, the bespoke curtain walling and the apartment’s glazed systems.

PBC was brought on board to manage the entire project and the insurance claim. The PBC team liaised with all parties, including the client, the tenant, the curtain wall contractor, Schneider Group, and the insurance loss adjuster.

The Challenges

As the apartment was on the 37th Floor, the building’s roof hoist was needed to lower the bespoke cladding and glazing materials in to place, and rigorous safety considerations were also introduced.  The external concrete cladding panels were also carefully repaired, and all of this was done while the entire building was occupied.  This meant PBC had to schedule work to minimise disruption and to allow access.

The reinstatement works were completed quickly, and the whole project took just six weeks.
